Using a bipap / cpap machine at home

Setting up and using it

Use the machine every night, or as often as the doctor prescribes. The pressure settings must be set by your doctor or sleep specialist.
A good mask fit matters most. Air leaking around the mask causes dry eyes, noise and poor therapy.
Place the machine on a steady surface, a little lower than the bed, so any water in the tube runs back towards the machine.
Use distilled water in the humidifier, and empty it every morning.
Keep the air inlet clear of curtains and bedding.

Care and safety

Wash the mask cushion daily with mild soap and water, and air-dry it out of direct sun.
Wash the tube and humidifier chamber weekly, and let them dry completely.
Check the air filter regularly and replace it as the manufacturer advises.
Never use bleach, alcohol or scented cleaners on the mask or tubing.
